Whether it’s fall, summer or any other season, dresses (φορέματα) are clothes we rely on. With dresses, thanks to the ease they offer in styling, one can achieve a different effect, depending on how they are worn. You can dress them up or dress down as much as you want, depending on the occasion, which proves their versatility.

Even if we are talking about a seasonless piece of the wardrobe, especially now in autumn, it has its place of honor. I think we have associated dresses with autumn and this, precisely because they offer ease of dressing. When the weather is indecisive and we don’t know what to wear, a dress and a coat are among the “easy” combinations for our daily looks.

This is also helped by the variety of styles that make it easier for us to create combinations that are more suitable for the weather. When you wear, for example, a long-sleeved, midi or maxi dress, then you don’t have to think about whether you should wear something on top to create a complete, autumnal look. Just a pair of shoes and some jewelry and the result speaks for itself. With the start of the new season this is a good occasion to see what is being worn in dresses, now in autumn.

A few words about the dresses that will be worn this fall

Based on the Fall 2022 collections as well as the street style fashion, we can see what are the trends in dresses for the fall and based on them decide which ones are worth investing in and which ones are not.

This year’s trends, however, do not deviate completely from the styles worn in spring and summer, with some more autumnal designs standing out, of course. The good news is that this fall, dresses have their due, as there is a wide variety of styles.

With fashion moving more towards more minimal, 90s influences with a touch of subtle glam, dress trends for fall include clean lines, sheer and lingerie inspired dresses (two trends we saw last season as well), but also more romantic styles designs with a twist. Sexy cuts remain at the center, but so do more classic designs that offer us that security in our everyday dressing.

Below, therefore, some of the prevailing casual styles in the dresses that will be worn more this fall.

Sheer dresses

Transparency has entered our lives for good for a while now, with autumn trends celebrating sheer (transparent and semi-transparent) dresses that offer sophisticated yet sexy looks at the same time. Wear them with underwear or a simple dress in a neutral color and combine them with boots and long coats.

Maxi dresses for fall

Maxi dresses, although they are a garment that we wear a lot in the summer, are an integral part of our autumn wardrobe as well. With mini dresses stealing the show in recent seasons, long dresses are making a splash this fall. There is an effortless versatility to them and depending on the design, they can be worn with tall boots or with a coat and trainers or even trousers underneath, creating interesting layered ensembles. They are worn to work as well as for a walk, while they are the perfect solution for the upcoming autumn weddings, now that the temperature has dropped a bit.

Minimal lines on the dresses

The minimalism of the 90s has started to have an increasingly upward trend and this is also confirmed by the catwalks and street style fashion. Another proof of the revival of the trend is the “cleaner” and minimal lines in the dresses for autumn. Think tube and slip dresses, monochromes and strict lines. This style of dress, although it has a simple line, can offer unique looks with the right styling. Wear it alone with boots for a cleaner look, with cardigans or jackets and boots or with high heels for a more evening fall look.

Cut-outs

This characterizes the dresses with cut-outs which this year also remain among the protagonists of our autumn looks. With a more fashion forward attitude this time, in line with street style and with bolder cuts, these dresses are ideal for more statement looks (and not only – depending on the design you can wear them everywhere). They match fantastically with high boots and jackets, while the casual, midi lengths with sneakers or loafers.

Dresses-corsets

Although corsets were once quite a restrictive type of undergarment, even causing pain to 18th century women who wore them under their voluminous dresses, today’s fashion is redefining the role of the corset. It undermines its application and subsequent fetish use, and through the Fall 2022 collections and street style we see this much stigmatized garment in a more liberating way.

In addition to corset tops, we are seeing the gradual rise of corset dresses which are both sexy and sophisticated. Accentuating the bust and curves, corset dresses can be worn on their own with a shirt underneath or with oversized coats and sneakers for a more relaxed look.
